Goals and Focus of BIKA®

  • Promoting the Bobath Concept in Hospital and Elderly Care
  • BIKA® is committed to the dissemination and advancement of the Bobath concept as a recognized nursing and therapeutic approach for patients with central nervous system disorders.
  • Training as a Bobath BIKA® Nursing Instructor The training curriculum for Bobath BIKA® nursing instructors was developed in collaboration with VeBID (Association of Bobath Instructors Germany and Austria). Its goal is to qualify experienced and practically skilled nurses as Bobath BIKA® instructors, equipping them with the theoretical knowledge and didactic skills needed to teach the Bobath concept at a high and practice-oriented level.
  • Together with VeBID, BIKA® has established unified, high-quality standards for Bobath basic and advanced nursing courses. Courses recognized by BIKA®/VeBID are conducted exclusively by certified Bobath BIKA® nursing instructors or IBITA-certified Bobath instructors. These courses do not teach fixed techniques or “grips,” but rather convey adaptable principles that respond to the individual needs and body structures of each patient. Participants are expected to derive and explain nursing practice based on sound theoretical foundations and to gain initial hands-on experience with patients.
  • BIKA® places particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of the Bobath concept. Since the Bobath concept originated in physiotherapy, BIKA® maintains close cooperation with VeBID. Since the Bobath concept originated in physiotherapy, BIKA® maintains close cooperation with VeBID.
